System Preview Video for Hans Kaiser, Central FL: The vast majority of renewable energy systems installed today are direct grid tie. Direct grid tie systems simply convert the DC of wind, solar or hydro to AC power and feed power back to the main panel to slow down or spin back your meter. Although more efficient, when the grid power fails on a direct grid tie system, the user has NO POWER. This system in this video utilzes a hybrid grid tie with battery backup inverter/charger. (Outback GTVFX & Xantrex XW are the only 2 on the market) The solar & wind will charge the batteries,...

To deliver power, BPA began building transmission lines in the 1930s. Today the system includes more than 15000 circuit-miles of line. BPA’s high-voltage electric grid links virtually all utilities in the Northwest. BPA also operates large interregional transmission lines that connect the Northwest grid to Canada, eastern Montana, California and other areas. These lines enable BPA and other utilities to bring power into the region when it’s needed, such as on very cold winter days, and to sell power outside the region when it is surplus to Northwest needs.

Along with wind power, concentration photovoltaics (CPV) offers one of the most promising utility-scale, renewable energy technology options. CPV has a current system efficiency of 25% and the potential of reaching much higher efficiency. In the right locations, it could provide electricity at cost low enough to be competitive with fossil and nuclear power. Compared to other solar technologies, CPV has the advantage of modularity and very low water needs. This documentary goes across technology features of CPV. A visit to ISFOC (CPV Institute in Puertollano, South of Spain) serves as a...

This is a September 2007 FOX News report on the Cascade Wind Project, a large industrial wind energy facility that was, at the time, proposed in the Sevenmile Hill area of Wasco County, Oregon, immediately adjacent to the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area. Each wind tower would have been 400 feet tall and highly visible from several miles away. The project would have forever changed the natural scenic views in the Rowena area of the Gorge. This landscape has been largely unaltered since Lewis and Clark traveled through the Gorge two hundred years ago. On January 20, 2009, developer...

Rescind mining permits on Coal River Mountain ~ October 19, 2009 Dear Governor Manchin, As residents of West Virginias Coal River Valley we write you to declare a state of emergency. Coal River Mountain is our last mountain untouched by mountaintop removal and it is in imminent danger of blasting. This would not only threaten our communities, it would also destroy our chance to have permanent jobs and renewable energy through ridge-top wind power. You have the power to rescind these permits. At any moment, Massey Energy could blast part of the Bee Tree site, on the containing ridge of the...
